Sal Martino says
Which current NFL official has the most field senority?
Mike says
With the recent retirements of Ron Phares and Tom Barnes, the two most senior field officials, there are actually three current officials who were hired by the league starting in 1989:
HL Mark Baltz (#26)
R Walt Coleman (#65)
SJ Don Carlsen (#39)
Mike Carey and Ed Hochuli were both hired in 1990
Sal Martino says
Thank you! Who are the new 2012 NFL officials?
Mike says
There are no new officials in 2012. Jim Howey missed all of 2011 with an injury, I believe, and is returning in 2012. He will replace Ron Phares as HL on Ron Winter’s crew. The LJ on Scott Green’s crew (replacing Tom Barnes) will likely be some combination of whoever is working the Thursday game and whoever is off on a given week. Jeff Lamberth will once again be working as a swing official (he was a swing official in 2011) and rumor has it that Bill Vinovich will also be serving as a swing official
Camps says
Mike is very reliable, indeed. Brad Biggs just confirmed Winter for Bears @ Jaguars, too.

Joe Platania says
Hello, everyone! Glad the regulars are back, and I mean on this board, not just the field!…
Straight from the Ravens’ mouths, their ref in KC will be…drum roll, please… PETE MORELLI!
Pete worked the HOU-BAL playoff game last year and he had three Ravens games in 2010, including a preseason tilt.
Preth says
Thanks Joe!
Omar says
Hey guys i will have access to all of Pete Morelli’s assignments via Pete himself ! So as soon as he receives his assignment I will update you on future games.
I was going to post that he is in KC for Ravens-Chiefs but I see Joe beat me to it
Source: you can check my Facebook if you would like and It shows me and Pete at an officials clinic recently where we exchanged numbers and I reside near where he works which is in Stockton at Saint Mary’s High School
Thanks guys!
Preth says
That’d be great. Thanks, Omar. π
Joe Platania says
Great to hear, Omar. I met Pete a few years back when he came to the Ravens’ training camp for the annual rule-change seminar. Very personable and nice man…
Kenneth says
i wonder if we could use the RA/VO’s assignments and predict which crews have which games?
(ie if Hochuli’s RA/VO w/ scab crew had Min-SF week 3, would it exclude the real crew from having Min or SF for the next 6 weeks since the RA/VO had seen the team?)
Preth says
Good thought. I’ll probably wait until the halfway point of the season for some sample size, but that’s definitely viable.
Russ says
Yes Kenneth, I used the RA assignments to figure out where the replacements would have been last week. Many of the crews last week were working with different RA’s than last season so either there were a lot of changes or it was short notice and they just sent crews somewhere and they will be reunited with their normal RA and VO this week. Only time will tell and I will for sure keep an eye out.
Omar says
Hey your welcome and yes Pete is a very nice person, truly class act man! I did however inform him that my favorite white hat was Gene lol we had some laughs
Glad to be aboard!
Nita says
Ed Hochuli is off this weekend. Oct. 7, 2012….

Avi says

Chris says

BigPoppa says

Preth says
He’s expressing enthusiasm for the possibility. Nothing wrong with that.
Truman says
